74 % Pakistanis on Mobile Internet Users Use Nokia Phone Device
Out of estimated 5 million mobile phone users, availing GPRS/EDGE facilities in Pakistan, 74 percent are on Symbian powered Nokia phones.
Over last one year, market share pattern has remained almost the same, where Apple powered devices, mostly the iPhones, share 8 percent market of mobile internet users. Nokia has lost its market share with a slight margin, from 76 % in February 2010 to to 74 percent in February 2011, however it looks that Nokia’s dominance in Pakistan can’t be compromised in near future.

85.5 Million Use Opera Mini in December
85.5 Million Use Opera Mini in December
Opera Mini has been long said to be the most popular mobile browser around the world, and the fact that it enjoyed a number of over 85.5 million users in December 2010 is proof of that.
According to the latest State of the Mobile Web Report from Opera, the mobile browser enjoyed a 6.8 percent increase when compared to November 2010, while going up by 84.7 percent in terms of unique users when compared to December 2009.
The said reports also shows that Opera Mini users viewed a number of other 46.7 billion pages during the month of December 2010, marking an increase of 4.6 percent in page views.
When compared to December 2009, the number of page views went up by 125.5 percent. If it wasn't for the compression technology that Opera Mini comes with, users would have viewed 6.5 petabytes of data.
At the same time, the report shows that more and more mobile phone users are accessing Amazon.com from their devices.
Opera Mini users in the United States and Germany are those who accessed Amazon.com the most, Opera's report shows. They almost doubled the number of page views to Amazon.com towards the end of the year, when compared to earlier in 2011.
The traditional shopping frenzy also resulted in an increase in shopping from mobile phones, the said report continues.
“This is especially visible in the daily number of visits to Amazon.com during the U.S. shopping weekend starting with 'Black Friday' and ending with 'Cyber Monday',” Opera notes.
The increase is significant when it comes to both monthly and daily numbers. Moreover, it shows that more and more users are interested in shopping and browsing online stores while on the go.
[IMG=2]“It is not hard to imagine the benefits of the full Web right at your fingertips when shopping in a crowded store,” said Jon von Tetzchner, Co-founder, Opera Software.
“'Is this TV on sale really a good offer, or can I get a better deal online? What are people saying on the Web about the advantages of this computer model compared to the more expensive one?'
“Full access to the Web via Opera Mini--even under difficult conditions such as crowded cellular networks--puts power back in the hands of the consumers.”

New Android Trojan Discovered, Called Geinimi
A new malicious program targeted at devices running under Google Android operating system was discovered in China recently. Dubbed “Geinimi,” the Trojan is reportedly one of the most sophisticated Android malware to date.
The solution was designed so as to compromise personal data on an affected device through collecting it and sending it to remote servers.
According to a recent post on the Lookout Mobile Security's Blog, the newly discovered Geinimi Trojan is also the first Android malware that shows botnet-like capabilities.
“Once the malware is installed on a user’s phone, it has the potential to receive commands from a remote server that allow the owner of that server to control the phone,” the said post continues.
Basically, this means that users would have to set their devices to allow for the installation of applications from Unknown sources, something that is also known under the name of sideloading.
According to the security firm, the affected applications would ask for extensive permissions, beyond the usual set of permissions that the unaffected versions request.
Mostly games are those who would pack the Trojan, and only apps available via third-party Chinese app stores, Lookout notes. No app in the Android Market was seen as compromised by this Trojan.
“The affected applications request extensive permissions over and above the set that is requested by their legitimate original versions. Though the intent of this Trojan isn’t entirely clear, the possibilities for intent range from a malicious ad-network to an attempt to create an Android botnet,” the blog post continues.
According to Lookout, the malware would send data that includes location coordinates, or device identifiers, such as IMEI and IMSI, or would prompt the user to download and install an app.
The firm also notes that the Geinimi Trojan includes various techniques that obfuscate its activities, in a move that makes it more sophisticated than other Android malware. “In addition to using an off-the-shelf bytecode obfuscator, significant chunks of command-and-control data are encrypted,” the company notes.
To ensure that they are safe, users are advised to download apps only from trusted sources, to check on the permissions an application requests, keep an eye on the behavior of the phone, or install a security application.

Gameloft Launches GT Racing HD and Real Soccer 2011 HD for Android {NEWS}
Leading game publisher Gameloft has added two new titles to the list of already available games it released for devices powered by Google's Android operating system.
The company made the announcement via Twitter, stating that the two new titles come in HD, just the same as its previous games for the platform.
“GT Racing HD and Real Soccer 2011 HD are out today for select Android devices! Check out the excitement today,” the company announced via Twitter.
Unfortunately, these titles are not compatible with all of the Android-based mobile phones available out there, and those interested in giving them a try should head to the company's website here to learn whether their devices are compatible or not.
One way or the other, users would still have to access Gameloft's website if they are interested in these games, since the company does not offer them via the Android Market. Both titles sport a price tag of $4.99.
As for what the new games would be able to offer, here's what the company notes on GT Racing: Motor Academy HD:
- 25 manufacturers and more than 100 licensed cars to buy, drive and upgrade
- An elaborate physics engine unique to each car for impressively realistic driving sensations
- A great variety of tracks, from the iconic Laguna Seca to urban tracks, speed rings and rally tracks
Those who are fond of racing games would certainly find that the new title is as appealing as it can be. However, in case there are some who would go for another type of game, Real Soccer 2010 HD is there for them.
In Real Soccer 2010 HD, players will be able to choose from a number of no less than 245 teams in 8 leagues. Real player names (FIFPro license) are also there, as well as a number of 14 stadiums to play on.
Other features of the new Real Soccer 2010 HD include:
- Local multiplayer mode to go head-to-head with friends.
- Exclusive game modes, including Enter the Legend (play as your favourite player on the field) and the RF League (online leaderboard).
India Gets Unlimited Blackberry Plans from Tata Docomo
Indian carrier Tata DOCOMO, the first private telecom company to launch 3G services in the country, has just introduced its Blackberry Unlimited plan for Prepay and Postpay customers. Those who wish to take advantage of the new offer will have to pay a monthly Rs 399 (about $9) fee.
- Unlimited push Email;
- As many as 10 personal e-mail accounts (Gmail, Yahoo mail, Hotmail, etc.);

- Unlimited usage on BlackBerry App World - Free application download & use;
- Unlimited usage on Social Networking (Facebook, Orkut, Myspace & more);

The main reason behind the new offering is the increasing popularity that Blackberry devices are getting in India lately.
According to the carrier, unlike other companies that offer limited browsing and/or emailing, as well as expensive Blackberry plans, Tata Docomo has bundled all services in an affordable all-in-one product for Blackberry devices.
Besides the benefits mentioned earlier, customers also get an additional 300 MB data download offer with Blackberry Unlimited.
However, as Tata DOCOMO 3G does not have full coverage in India, the offer will only be available in 9 states: Gujarat & Daman & Diu, Haryana, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra (excluding Mumbai) & Goa, Punjab, Rajasthan and Western Uttar Pradesh & Uttarakhand.
With the exception of the 3G services, customers can take advantage of the Blackberry Unlimited on Tata Docomo mobile network across the entire country where the carrier has coverage.
Customers need to subscribe for the Blackberry Unlimited service online at the carrier's website, by filling up a standard form, or call at the number posted.
