Introduction to Ovi Player
Nokia Ovi Player is a free PC application for playing and organising your music, discovering and downloading new music on Ovi, transferring songs and playlists between your compatible PC and compatible Nokia mobile devices, and ripping and burning your audio CDs.To organise your music collection, open the My music tab. You can connect several compatible devices to the Ovi Player to view and play music stored on them. The devices area in Ovi Player shows the devices that are currently connected, which one is selected for viewing, and the status of any ongoing rip, burn, and transfer operations. Use drag and drop to play, rip, burn, and transfer music from one location to another.
To sample and download millions of songs, open the Ovi Music tab. Depending on your country of residence, you can pay for your downloads instantly, buy credit for your account, or use an Ovi Music voucher. To download music, you need to create a Nokia account.
PC requirements for Ovi Player
To use Ovi Player on your PC, your computer must meet the following requirements:Introduction to Ovi Music
- Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home (with SP2), Windows XP Pro (with SP2), Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Basic N, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Business N, Windows Vista Enterprise, and Windows Vista Ultimate
- User account: Administrator rights required for installation
- Processor: 1.5 GHz (recommended: 2.5 GHz, or 1.5 GHz dual core)
- Memory: 512 MB (recommended: 2 GB) on PC and 128 MB free memory on device (built-in memory or memory card) to allow music transfer.
- Free disk space: 500 MB (recommended: 40 GB)
- Graphics: 32 MB integrated (recommended: 128 MB dedicated)
- Screen resolution: 1024x768 pixels
- Audio: Sound card and required drivers, connected speakers or headphones
- Internet: Online connection for buying, transferring between registered devices, and streaming 30 second sample clips (recommended: broadband connection)
Ovi Player does not support Mac, Linux, or older versions of Windows.

Ovi Player menus
Access functions and features — Use the main menu.The main menu items consist of the following:
- File — Locate, play, and import songs to your music collection, create playlists, and
exit Ovi Player. - Edit — Cut, copy, paste, delete, and select items, view and edit song details, and
modify the Ovi Player settings. - View — Switch between views of your music collection or the Music store, change
the look of Ovi Player, and switch to mini mode. - Play — Control the player.
- Account — Create and manage your Nokia account.
- Support — View help and check for software updates.
Browse music
Browse the music on your PC, connected mobile devices, and audio CDs — Select My music. Search is limited to the device whose music collection you are currently viewing, for example, your PC or a connected mobile device. If you are viewing the contents of an audio or blank CD, search is disabled.Access the Music store (where available) — Select Ovi Music. You can search the contents of the Music store.
Navigate back and forward between views and pages you have visited — Select the arrow icons.
Search for a specific artist, album, or song — Enter the search terms in the search field, and press enter.
View the contents of the selected device by category — Select Artists, Albums, Genres, or Recent.
View music in a grid or detailed view — Select or .
Display or hide album art — Select .
Start playback immediately — Move your mouse cursor over artist or album art, and select .
View a song, album, or artist details — Move your mouse cursor over artist or album art, and select .
Transfer music to a connected mobile device — Move your mouse cursor over artist or album art, and select .
Connected devices, removable storage, and network drives
View currently connected devices and the status of rip, burn, and transfer operations — View the devices area.View the contents of a device — Select a device that is in the devices area.
View the music contents of a removable storage device or network drive — Import the music to the PC or set Ovi Player to monitor the appropriate folders. You can connect several compatible mobile devices or CD drives to your PC at the same time.
Removable storage devices and network drives are not displayed as separate devices.
Create and view playlists
Create a new playlist — Select .View or hide your playlists — Select Show playlists or Hide playlists.
Play music
Control the currently playing song and adjust the volume — Use the media player controls.In the Store view, you can open the queue by moving your mouse cursor over the reveal area under the player control’s progress bar. The queue contains a list of songs that are queuing to be played.
You can add music stored on your PC, on your connected mobile device, or songs from an audio CD in the CD drive of your PC.
Repeat all queued songs — Select .
Play the queued songs in random order — Select .
Save the queued songs as a playlist — Select . Songs in a mobile device, an audio CD, or a temporary folder are not included in the playlist.
Clear the queue — Select .
If you have enabled recommendations, a new recommendation is automatically displayed soon after each new song starts playing.
Manage downloads
Hide the download list — Select .Remove a song from the list — Right-click it, and select Remove.
Remove all songs from the list — Right-click the list, and select Remove all.
When you are downloading songs from the Music store, you can view the download progress.
Ovi Player supports playback of the following audio formats: WAV, AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, M4A, MP4, 3GP, MP3, CDA, ASF, WMA and WMA lossless, Voice and Pro.
Ovi Player general settings
To modify the general settings of Ovi Player, select Edit > Options…, and open the General tab.You can modify the following:
- Change the language of Ovi Player. You must be online to change the language. The change takes effect the next time you start Ovi Player.
- Set Ovi Player as the default player for various audio formats.
- Define how playlists with unavailable songs are transferred between your PC and your mobile device.
- Allow Ovi Player to collect anonymous usage statistics, which are used to improve the service.
